Hurricane Ida Response

SHUR home page

Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Louisiana who just experienced the fourth disaster declaration in twelve months. We want to do all we can to ease their pain and suffering, and speed their recovery.

We are encouraged by how many of our members have inquired about our response to Hurricane Ida. We are in communication with local disaster coordinators waiting for direction inquiring as to what type relief is most appropriate. Local officials are in the process of rescuing, assessing damages, and securing the area.  There are downed power lines and a great deal of hazardous debris scattered about, but as soon as the local officials give us the all-clear we will facilitate sending relief, and teams to help with clean-up. Please see below how you can prepare to respond.

Relief Supplies

We know there are basic needs that are always needed, so we are initiating collections of relief supplies from throughout our region to be shipped to the most needed areas. As soon as we receive direction from local leaders in Louisiana, we will be ready to ship out. We have trucks and trailers lined up to transport the items from our local area to their staging locations. See the Relief Supply List listed below for a list of items we are soliciting. Drop off locations are listed at the bottom of this page. If your congregation would like to have a collection drive, please email Sonya.meyers@hopedrtx.org .

Mission Teams

If your congregation is considering sending mission teams when we have the “all clear”, please start preparing by attending Muck, Gut and Tarping training sessions we are offering. Dates and times are listed below. Please register to attend one of those sessions if you have an interest in being deployed.

  • We have a location that can host teams in LaPlace. If you are interested in going, please contact Denise.snider@hopedrtx.org to discuss the dates you want to serve.
